NEURONAL RESERVE [ back to Glossary Index ]
Neuronal Reserve is the amount of healthy, normally functioning brain cells and brain circuits existing at the time the brain injury is incurred. Advanced age, previous concussions or strokes and other conditions associated with diminished neuronal reserve, herald a poorer outcome following a TBI. Medical literature on TBI outcome indicates that lack of neuronal reserve becomes an issue of concern with any person over the age of 40.
