HETEROTOPIC OSSIFICATION   [ back to Glossary Index ]
Heterotopic Ossification is painful, mobility-limiting condition of the joints which is seen primarily in patients with a severe TBI, caused by deposition of "islands" of calcium in skeletal muscles and joints. Treatments include medications like Indomethacin, radiation therapy and surgery. HO tends to recur even after apparently successful treatment.
